Signifiers in action

Here's the link to an amazing essay by Kelly T. Keating about the Untitled photographic public art created by Felix Gonzalez-Torres in 1991. The work was meant to be a sort of love letter to Torres' partner who had recently died of AIDS. The essay is a critique on this work and other similar pieces that have created signifiers leading to an instantly visually recognizable relationship between homosexuality and the AIDS virus.
